What does it mean when the brake and battery lights come on at the same time then turn off again randomly?
I have a 1996 Nissan Altima. For about 3 weeks the battery and brake lights have come on and off at the same time randomly. I had my altenator and battery tested and both are giving off a charge. I just put tons of money in the car and do not want to keep adding to that amount since I am planning on getting rid of it in the spring. The Brakes also looked good. Help please!

- maybe just a loose/corroded connection at the fuse block or juntion block
- could be a fuse my old car did that it was just the fuses had blown or could be your connector's to your battery they may have some acid on them
- Generally speaking, the battery and brake lights will come on at the same time when the ignition is in the "on" position, but the engine is not running, such as when starting the car, or if the car were to stall. You may either be experiencing a rapid stall/re-start condition, or the ignition switch "thinks" the car has stalled. (a completely non-technical over simplification) It's possible that you have an electrical short in the ignition switch. It may not be a serious condition yet, but should be checked and corrected as it could become more severe and cause the vehicle to not start. In the meantime, if you have a lot of "stuff" on your keychain (i.e., it's heavy) take some of it off. The weight from excess stuff on a keychain can fatigue the ignition switch and cause it to wear prematurely. I suggest having your vehicle checked by a mechanic who is especially familiar with Nissan. It may be a common problem with a simple fix for someone who's seen it before.
- check your battery cables to make sure they are tightend.
