what is the best video camera for a small time indie film maker to use?

I just got into indie film making and would like to know what gear I would need to shoot my film. Specifically what type of video camera, lighting and sound equipment. My budget is only $3,000

1. I can honestly say that this is a real tough, open ended question to answer. Meaning, there are other questions to your questions: 1. How do you plan to show/deliver your film? Are you transferring to a film print so you can show it in a movie theater? Are you putting your film on a dvd? 2. Have you alloted in your budget for pre- and for post- productions? How are you planning and preparing for your film? Writing the script on a computer with a screenwriting program? How about storyboarding, etc.? Are going to edit your film on computer? Which NLE/editing program are you going to use? 3. Would you be willing to buy used equipment? Maybe someone you can borrow from? 4. What about your actors and crew? Even friends and family members get hungry on set.
