WHAT DO I NEED TO PUT BETWEEN BATTERY AND LIGHTS TO KEEP LONGER CHARGE?

I have a home-made truck camper and put in five 12 volt with 1141-21cp bulbs. I have a 12 volt deep cycle battery. What do I need to put between the battery and the lights so the lights will last longer? Can only get one evening use from them now and know they should last longer.

  1. Nothin! anything you add can only drain or reduce the brightness. OK reduce the brightness put a rheostat, a Variable resistor, like a dimmer switch.
  2. 5 twelve volt lights would drain a battery in about 10 hours. You can charge the battery off the truck alternator, but you would need an isolator between the two batteries. You don't want your main battery going dead.
  3. You are pretty limited in options. Your battery only has a storage capacity of so much, and those 5 bulbs are going to draw the current necessary to glow. Ohm's Law applies here. If you can be happy with less light, try a dimmer. Or try bulbs with 10 cp instead. The ideal solution would be to locate some high-power LED lamps. They draw less than 20% of the power for the same illumination.
  4. The 1141's will drain the battery fairly fast and anything you add will add to the load and help drain it faster. A 12V florescent fixture or even two would provide more light and draw fewer amps. They can be purchased from camping world or most RV dealers.
  5. Nothing.. How old is your battery? However, if you get two 6V T-105 batts and put them in series. you`ll get a much longer lasting lights. another option is to buy white LED lights from NAPA. Truck backup lights are super bright but kinda expensive. there are also white LED interior lights too, for less money and will reamin lit for days with your old battery. http://www.napaonline.com/NOLPPSE/(S(yw5paiaascpdxy31yvflqfey))/Results.aspx?Ntt=led&Ntk=Keyword&N=25063 http://www.napaonline.com/NOLPPSE/(S(yw5paiaascpdxy31yvflqfey))/Detail.aspx?R=BK_3005233_0214199947
  6. how about a generator or and alternator. that is about it. fewer lights would slow down the onset of darkness but not much else.
