Blinking brake and battery lights - '99 Forester?

I recently experienced a breakdown and tow-in when I started getting erratically blinking dash warning lights, then hesitation, bucking. Pulled over, shut down. No battery left to start although interior lights were OK. Replaced alternator and battery. Now I randomly get rapidly blinking brake and battery lights with no other effect. This is at any speed. I noticed this afternoon that the lights went solid when I used and held the brakes. My local garage is mystified and at a loss. So am I. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

1. could be a really messed up pcm or bcm . or really bad wiring problem. they tend to splice things together and could be messing with everything... start checking your power and grounds, look at the wiring diagrams and logically follow wires or find splices.
