How do I make my outdoor lights emit red without changing the bulb? In my film class, our professor mentioned some type of fiberglass gels that you use to change the color of the light. However, I don't think I heard him correctly and now someone wants to put it over their outdoor lights to make them red for the holidays. I'm pretty sure I have the correct material (the woven fiberglass) in mind, but I just want to make certain. if this is the incorrect material, what else can I use to put over my lights as a gel to make the light reds.
How do I install my outdoor Christmas lights? I need to install my outdoor Christmas lights on my balcony, but don't have an outlet outside. Isn't there some pay to plug them into the outdoor light bulb socket? How do I do it, what do I need to buy?
Multiple outdoor lights to install and only one fixture? I bought 2 seperate outdoor floodlights, but have only one fixture. The light currently there has to stay, and I'm trying to connect these 2 new lights with the circuit/wires of the existing light by splitting the wires. Is this possible without overloading the circuit? What is the best way to split the wire 3-ways? I need some advice!
installing outdoor lights with switch? Ive installed 8 outdoor 120 volt flood lights to illuminate trees that I have. they are 120 watt max per light. I have it connected a dedicated 15amp breaker. But it seems when I try to switch the lights on they dont go on but when I plug lights in to the plug it works. First should each light be grounded since its on the ground and Second how should the wires be connected? Thanks, dont want to burn the house down.

Where can I find lights for outdoor trees? I am looking for something called "Fairy Lights" for outdoor use. Technically, they are outdoor christmas lights, but they are made for year round use. I have seen these used in commercial areas and shopping centers to light their trees year round. I have tried searching different Christmas websites, but all I can find is lights with white or green cords, and I need something with Brown cords. Does anyone know where to find these?
what do you call these outdoor patio lights? I am trying to figure out what these lights are called. I know they were used alot in the past to light up car lots and as christmas lights in the 50's. I still see them today in outdoor restaurant patios and at firework stands. They are full size light bulbs on a string. I would like to purchase some for my outdoor patio but I cant find where they are sold.
How do you safely use an extension cord with outdoor Christmas lights? I'm hanging Christmas lights for the first time and need to connect my house lights to a bush net light set. The only outdoor extension cords I can find are three prong, the Christmas lights are two prong. Every website I found says you have to use a three prong for safety's sake. How can I put outdoor lights powered by a wall switch on a timer? I want to put the exterior lights of my home (i.e. porch lights) on a timer. They are powered by wall switches inside my home. Ideally, I would like for the lights to come on at dusk and turn off at dawn. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this?
Have you used solar outdoor lights? I don't have a back porch light and am not going to attempt to wire it... I'm looking at solar outdoor lights. I'd just like to hear opinions from those that used them before I make a purchase. Is it worth it? Are they bright enough? Any other info is appreciated...thanks
I need help with outdoor Christmas lights? Ok, maybe I am making this way harder than it is, but I am completely baffled when it comes to hanging outdoor Christmas lights. Here's where I need help... If you want to hang a string of Christmas lights off of (for example) a 13 ft strip and lights only come in (for example) a 15 ft strip, how do you hang a 15 ft string of lights across a 13 ft area without having excess lights hanging off? As I drive around our neighborhood, it would appear that no one has any excess lights hanging off of their gutters, nor do they have any strands which are too short. It would appear the strands they've hung are miraculously perfect in length. The lights aren't hiding anywhere (say, on the backside of the roof or anything), so what am I missing here? Strands of lights only come in certain lengths and not everyone has the same area to cover. So, how do I hang my lights without either a) having excess amounts hanging off of the gutters or b) having a strand which is too short? This "doubling back"... wouldn't that show? In my head, I imagine it to look like there's too many lights or extra brightness in that area (where you've "doubled back"). Am I making this too hard? : )
I am having problems with my outdoor decking lights. The lights keep tripping when I switch them on?? The decking lights (2 sets - low voltage with transformers) are connected to an outdoor strip socket in weatherproofing box. There is approx. 6 metres of cable from the strip socket to the socket indoors. The lights continue to trip each time I switch them on. However, if I plug the transformers into an extension plug they work no problem. Unfortunately, this is too bulky for the weatherproofing box. Could this be a problem with the strip socket or the 6 metre wiring??
Why does my outdoor motion-sensored lights stay on? I just came home for college on Thanksgiving break and somehow my parents did something and now the outdoor motion-sensored lights stay on no matter what when you flip the switch to turn them on, instead of them going off after a min and staying dark until it's activated by motion. I thought I could flip the switch twice and reset it but it's not working, any other ideas?

I have outdoor lighting on a timer. All outdoor lights stopped working, but the timer itself is working. HELP There are several lights outside that are on a timer. I am sure the timer is working, since it is keeping the correct time and the dial moves with the time. When I manually try to turn on the outdoor lights from the timer, they do not turn on. The lighting outside isn't working. I checked the breaker, and it has not tripped. Now what? What would I look for outside that may be the problem? There are several lights on this timer, so it is not a light bulb or a single bulb ballast. Thank you for your help!

Melissa Thanks for all the replys I however do not know what a GFCI is? Is that the red/black reset button on my outlets like in my bathroom? Yes the lights where working for about a month we had a big rain today tried another light in the outlet that didn't work plugged the lights else where they worked fine there may more of those red/black outlets in my kitchen and laundry room. Outdoor lights stopped working- why? We recently moved into an old house with 120 volt outdoor lights (not today's norm of 12V) with a photo sensor. One night they just did not come on.... We covered the photosensor to simulate darkness and tried to troubleshoot. The weird thing is, a voltmeter put in each light bulb socket measures 120V (like I assume it should), but when the light bulb is screwed in, it does not turn on. What could make this happen? Bulbs all work in other sockets inside the house. And no fuse is blown- like I said, voltmeter shows 120V in the light bulb socket. The bulbs are fine and now the socket has been straight wired to the hosue removing any switches or photo sensors. There is a length of underground wire connecting the socket to the house, but I can measure the voltage at the socket at 120V and 60Hz. Everything says the socket shoudl work, but bulbs don't work. I unwired the socket and wired in a recetacle amd plugged in a lamp. Still measuring 120V a the lamp socket, but nothing happens (bulb and lamp all work in other sockets). I've debugged enough to realize the problem is in the length of wire from the house the socket, but can't imagine why it won't work. I guess my next step is to dig it up.
Linking two outdoor lights? I have just put two lights up outside and have them linked together, do i have to earth the second light? If so how do i do it?
Help with my outdoor icicle lights? I checked my icicle lights and they all worked. When I hung them on the house (I plugged in 3 strands like the box said I could) the end of each strand was not lit. Only a partial of each strand was burned out. How can fix or what am I doing wrong? My house looks like crap!
Outdoor lights with broken bulb - unsafe? I bought a string of 20 lights, they are big round bulbs for summertime outdoors. They came with replacement fuses, but since they are big bulbs, no replacement bulb. Of course while trying to hang them today I found out they were made of glass and not plastic when one bulb shattered. I am clueless about this type of thing, so I don't know, is it safe to use them still? Should I unscrew the rest of the bulb from its socket or would that be even worse? I plugged them in just to see, and they worked, but the inside of the broken bulb (filament, perhaps?) was fine until it brushed up against something and made a pop noise and left a black mark. I realize I probably have to toss them - what are the chances target would replace them (I know it was my fault, but they also didn't provide a replacement!)? Thank you Quick answers :) Thank you - I will attempt to return them to Target, or hope for a replacement bulb. So I take it I'd be better off having nothing screwed into that socket rather than the broken bulb? I'll go take it out now! Good news - Target will exchange them within 90 days, so note to anyone else who breaks lights, haha. Thank you for all your answers!
How do you put up outdoor Christmas lights? I've always wondered how people do this! I mean do you have tons of leads running through your letterbox? Where do you plug them in!? Any tips or advice would be great, thanks!
