Whether it is still or video photography, light is the key tool to getting good pictures; when you can control the light, you can control your photography and create superb looking video that impresses everyone you know. Lights can prove a very costly investment, but if you know where to look and what to look for, you can find cheap video camera lights

On-camera lights

The most convenient way to light your videos is with an on-camera light. Many video manufacturers already make cameras with built-in lights, but they are not very powerful. Such manufactures as Sima and GoVideo make basic, inexpensive on-camera lights that you can mount onto the shoe mount of your camera and turn it on; these lights only need one or two AA or AAA batteries.

Used lighting equipment

If you are looking for something that gives you a bit more control, you can look for used lighting equipment at a fraction of the cost of buying new equipment. You may even find a way to have two-point or three-point lighting for a relatively low price. Do not forget to look for light stands that are compatible with them.

Doing it yourself

You can make your own video camera light with three white LEDs, a 10-ohm resistor, a 4xAAA battery holder with a switch and a Phillips head screwdriver. This requires a bit of time to put it together, but the savings are well worth the effort if you know what to do.

You do not need to spend too much money to get decent lighting for your videos. All you need to do is look around to see what you can use to suit your needs at the lowest possible price.
